Perimenopause
The basics
The Nitty Gritty
According to the Mayo Clinic, women may start to first notice symptoms of perimenopause in their 40s, such as irregular periods. But others may experience symptoms as early as their 30s or as late as their 50s. These symptoms are caused by the rise and fall of estrogen, the main female hormone in your body. Your periods may get longer or shorter or you may even skip one. Once you have gone 12 months without a period, you have reached menopause and perimenopause is over.
You Are Unique
My story, tips and product recommendations are all based my personal experience with perimenopause. Your journey and body may be completely different than mine! Only use products that align with your needs, skin and hair type, personal preference and medical conditions. Be sure to review all ingredients before using, to be aware of any allergies or sensitivities. Talk to your doctor before adding any new supplements to your routine as they could interact with medications you are currently taking.

The symptoms of Perimenopause can be sudden, alarming and make you feel out of control at times. Besides the usual hot flashes and period irregularity, other symptoms can become quite serious. Symptoms such as bone loss (osteoporosis), changes in cholesterol levels, vaginal and bladder problems, heart palpitations, and severe sleep disturbances are possible. These physical issues should never be ignored. Talk to your general practitioner or gynecologist right away. Prescription medications or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) may be right for you!
Besides these physical symptoms, the mental and emotional symptoms of perimenopause can be just as concerning. Uncontrollable mood swings, feelings of rage or hopelessness, deep depression or thoughts of suicide, require immediate attention. Please contact your health care professional and ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF!
If you are having thoughts of suicide, dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You are NOT alone.
